Industrial designers combine vision and creativity in order to turn concepts into successful products and services. Think for example of an Augmented Reality app that helps young families to design their future car. Or what about an autonomous exoskeleton for elderly with a walking disability? Or a marketing campaign to attract more people to a soft drinks brand? The possibilities are endless.

The Chinese economy is rapidly transforming from ‘made in China’ to ‘created in China’. Designers are in high demand. The studio-centred BEng Industrial Design programme educates a new generation of designers. It uses an interdisciplinary approach, integrating engineering, design, business, human computer interaction, anthropology, and aesthetics.

The BEng Industrial Design uses the best practices and latest development trends in design. You have the opportunity to work with local and multinational enterprises and obtain real-world design experience. In doing this you learn to bridge cultural differences between China and other countries. After all, job opportunities in design are worldwide!

Industrial Design at XJTLU is very innovative. Teachers from different fields bring together different perspectives of design. In addition to practical design skills, we also learn about design thinking (strategy and process), which is an essential factor in becoming a good designer
