Title: Integrating Heat Shock Molecular Chaperones into the Histone Chaperone Network
活动简介
In this talk, Dr.Colin Hammond will give a broad introduction into chromatin biology. Chromatin defines the gene expression profile of a cell, allowing different cell-types to emerge from the same genetic information. The basic repeating subunit of chromatin is the nucleosome which is made up on an octamer of histone proteins which wrap DNA. My particular interest is in how histones are delivered and deposited on DNA by histone chaperones(Hammond et al. Nat Rev Mol Cell Biol,2017).He will then discuss our recent work(Hammond et al.Mol Cell,2021), where through the integration of structure-guided and functional proteomic assays they have identified and characterised a protein, called DNAJC9, that encodes both histone chaperone and heat shock co-chaperone functionalities. The latter links DNAJC9 to the cellular protein folding machinery-heat shock molecular chaperones like HSP70.His talk will describe their in-depth functional analysis of this novel link between the histone chaperone and heat shock molecular chaperone worlds. This work reveals a surprising continuous need for heat shock catalysis to interface with histone chaperone biology. Heat shock biology impacts many cellular processes and when combined with the multidisciplinary nature of our work I hope this seminar will appeal to a broad audience.Dr. Hammond will also briefly discuss how he has ended up working in this field after his undergraduate degree in chemistry; this may be particularly interesting to undergraduates considering a similar change in scientific discipline.
