活动简介

In this paper I shall explore the implications of a recent finding that John Keats’s father, Thomas Keates, was enlisted in the London Volunteer Cavalry. I shall explore the significance of this for our understanding of Thomas Keates and the Keats family. I shall then consider how the ‘cavalry link’ may have influenced Keats’s sense of his social standing, his idea of poetic calling, and some of his poems. The talk will be illustrated with PowerPoint images.
