Dr Matilda Isaac

Interim Dean of School of Internet of Things

Dr Matilda Isaac is a leader in the field of technological innovation and education. Currently serving as the Interim Dean of the School of Internet of Things at Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU), she is committed to advancing academic excellence and fostering the next generation of tech-savvy leaders.

Dr Isaac earned her PhD in Technological Studies from Eastern Michigan University in the US, where she made notable contributions to the Higher Learning Commission's programme evaluations and accreditation efforts. In 2012, she successfully piloted an American degree programme in the Chinese mainland, demonstrating her ability to bridge educational experiences across cultures and enhance global learning opportunities.

With extensive experience in both academia and the manufacturing industry, Dr Isaac has led numerous student research projects using cutting-edge technologies, including data science, machine learning, neural networks, deep learning, and computer vision. Her commitment to cultivating technological and analytical skills has empowered students from diverse backgrounds, including those in the US, UAE, Haiti, and China.

Dr Isaac's current research focuses on wireless sensor networks for e-health with edge-intelligence, where she is leading an innovative project at XJTLU's Centre of Excellence for Syntegrative Education (CoESE). This initiative aims to enhance elderly care and remote monitoring through AI-enhanced IoT, reflecting her dedication to applying technology for societal benefit and broadening educational horizons.

Dr Isaac is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) and an active member of IEEE WIE (Women in Engineering), ASIS&T (Association for Information Science and Technology), and a member of IET (Institution of Engineering and Technology). She is also an honorary academic staff member of the Delta Mu Delta International Honor Society at Madonna University in the US. Her outstanding contributions have earned her a nomination for Marquis Who's Who in the United States, honouring her as an influential figure in the global industry.
