On September 11, 2024, Suzhou Data Bureau released the list of “Suzhou Laboratory of Multimodal Big Data Innovation Application with Obvious Effectiveness” at the launching ceremony of the final round of Suzhou Station of Jiangsu Branch of “Data Element ×” Competition 2024. The “Suzhou Multimodal Big Data Innovation Application Lab” of School of AI and Advanced Computing of Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University was successfully selected. Dr Hongbin Liu attended the ceremony on behalf of the laboratory.
The Suzhou Multimodal Big Data Innovation Application Lab, initiated by the School of Al and Advanced Computing, aims to explore the application of multimodal technologies in four fields, “Urban Governance”, “Education and Learning”, “Digital Economy” and “Biomedicine” through the research of the latest artificial intelligence technologies, such as image recognition, natural language processing, big data, large scale models etc.
The laboratory had achieved remarkable results in the four fields after established in one year.
- Prof. Angelos Stefanidis and Dr. Jionglong Su jointly published article in Neural Computing & Applications, combining Transformer-based deep reinforcement learning with the Black-Litterman model which achieved a new portfolio optimization method.
- Dr Huakang Li's article in Artificial Intelligence Review explored the challenges of various applications of automated digest tasks.
- Dr Hongbin Liu released LPBlur, the first large-scale license plate deblurring dataset for real-world scenarios, in his paper published in IJCAI2024, which provided important data support for license plate recognition.
- Dr Jingxin Liu introduced BiF³-Net in Medical Imaging with Deep Learning 2024, which addressed the limited receptive field due to traditional convolutional operations and the semantic gap due to simple skip connections.
The laboratory also participated in a series of industry-university-research cooperation projects, such as the 2024 19th National University Student Smart Car Race-iFlytek Smart Rescue Challenge, which was supervised by the Chinese Association of Automation, and a series of projects such as the construction of a floating dock with Cross Ocean (Suzhou) Technology Co., Ltd.
Welcome to visit “Suzhou Multimodal Big Data Innovation Application Lab” at School of AI and Advanced Computing in Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University.
