The 2024 International Conference on Higher Education Learning and Teaching (ICHELT 2024) recently concluded successfully at Curtin University Malaysia. Co-organised by Curtin University Malaysia and the Research Centre for AI and Education (RC4AIED) at Academy of Future Education of XJTLU, the event fostered dialogue on cutting-edge learning and teaching strategies in higher education under the theme "Enhancing the Learning Experience." The conference provided an invaluable platform for XJTLU’s staff and students to showcase their research and engage with international experts.
Dr Xiaojun Zhang (pictured below), Chief Officer of Education of XJTLU delivered a keynote address at the conference.
The Research Centre for AI and Education also hosted a dedicated forum titled “AI and Education,” providing a focused space for in-depth discussions on the transformative potential of AI in the educational sector. Through lectures and presentations, experts shared insights on topics such as personalised learning, adaptive assessment, and innovative classroom technologies—highlighting the dynamic intersections between AI and education.
“The Research Centre for AI and Education is committed to transforming the education sector through the integration of advanced AI technologies. Our mission is to enhance learning experiences, empower educators, and inspire the next generation of innovators. We envision a future where education is personalised, accessible, and tailored to individual needs through seamless AI integration,” said Dr Na Li, Co-Director of the Centre.
Since its establishment in December 2023, RC4AIED has grown rapidly, now encompassing more than 21 active projects and over 150 members. These members represent a wide range of stakeholders from more than ten countries, including university leaders, faculty, researchers, students, administrative professionals, industry executives, and government experts. Their expertise spans more than 20 disciplines, including digital education, artificial intelligence, neuroscience, education, management, psychology, and computer science.
At the conference, XJTLU and Curtin University Malaysia formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking a significant milestone in the two institutions’ educational and research collaboration. This partnership will promote student and staff exchange, joint research initiatives, and academic resource sharing—enriching the learning experience and strengthening institutional ties.
RC4AIED has also played a pivotal role in supporting academic publication efforts among staff and students. To date, the Centre has facilitated the publication of more than 20 internationally peer-reviewed conference papers on IEEE Xplore by faculty and students from both the Academy of Future Education and the School of Intelligent Engineering. These achievements not only reflect XJTLU’s growing research capacity and global influence but also contribute to the worldwide dissemination of knowledge and the advancement of science and technology.
