March 5, 2025, a career talk themed “Social Sciences in the Job Market: How Competitive Are we?” was successfully held. The Department of Applied Linguistics at HSS invited representatives from CNPIC Kexin, Alicia Xuan Wang and Charles Yang Guo, Marketing Director of AI for Science. The event provided Applied Linguistics students with valuable insights into the role of technology, publishing, and artificial intelligence in academic research and career development.
Ms. Alicia, representing CNPIC Kexin, introduced the company’s history and its commitment to advancing global research exchange. She emphasized the growing demand for AI-driven knowledge services in academia and how the company is leveraging technology to support researchers. She also expressed high expectations for young talent, encouraging students to integrate their academic learning with practical industry applications.
Associate Dean Dr Mohsen al Attar highlighted the importance of university-industry partnerships in his speech. He stressed that universities are not only institutions for acquiring knowledge but also platforms for fostering innovation and problem-solving skills. The collaboration with CNPIC Kexin will offer students practical experiences, enabling them to apply their academic knowledge in real-world settings.
Following Associate Dean’s speech, Ms. Alicia and Dr Penelope Scott, Head of the Department of Applied Linguistics, officially established a partnership and signed a cooperation contract. This collaboration aims to introduce joint internship and research programs, providing students with more industry exposure and practical experience.
The central highlight of the career talk was the comprehensive industry insights shared by Mr. Charle. Drawing from his professional experience, he explored the applications of AI, technological publishing, and blockchain in academic dissemination, emphasizing the significance of cross-sector collaboration in driving technological innovation. He also discussed how interdisciplinary expertise and technological adaptability are becoming essential skills in the evolving knowledge services industry.
The event was hosted by Dr Hong Liu from the Department of Applied Linguistics at XJTLU. It not only deepened students’ understanding of artificial intelligence and the publishing industry but also provided them with valuable career development advice. Dr. Liu will continue to lead comprehensive collaboration with CNPIC Kexin in research projects and student practical training. In the future, the Department of Applied Linguistics will further expand its industry partnerships to create more opportunities for students to gain hands-on experience and enhance their employability.
