On a sunny weekend day earlier this month of March, students and faculty from the Department of Biosciences and Bioinformatics, School of Science at XJTLU, embarked on an enriching field trip to visit to the Suzhou Museum, a cultural gem renowned for its stunning architecture and extensive collection of Chinese art and artifacts.
This excursion aimed to deepen the participants' understanding of Chinese history, art, and culture, aligning with the university's commitment to providing holistic educational experiences. Upon arrival, the group was warmly welcomed by the museum staff, who provided an overview of the museum's significance and its unique architectural design, which harmoniously blends traditional Suzhou aesthetics with modern elements. The museum, designed by the acclaimed architect I.M. Pei, features elegant courtyards and reflective ponds, creating a serene atmosphere that enhances the visitor experience. As the tour commenced, students and faculty explored various exhibitions showcasing ancient Chinese ceramics, textiles, and paintings.
The highlights included exquisite silk scrolls and intricate jade carvings that offered insights into the artistic techniques and cultural values of different dynasties. Faculty members engaged students in discussions about the historical context of the artifacts, encouraging critical thinking and fostering a deeper appreciation for the cultural heritage on display. Kindly organized by the Museum staff, the trip to Suzhou museum not only enriched visitors' academic knowledge but also fostered a sense of community , reinforcing the university's mission to cultivate global citizens with a profound appreciation for cultural diversity.
The School of Science art (1 painting and 1 photo) were presented by the group to Suzhou museum on behalf of the XJTLU family, as a token of deep appreciation. Overall, the visit was a memorable, inspirational and inspiring experience for XJTLU students, colleagues and staff.
