On April 25, 2025, a delegation from the School of Science at Mae Fah Luang University (MFU), Thailand, visited the School of Science (SCI) of Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) in Suzhou, China, to explore future academic collaboration and solidify their partnership.
The MFU delegation was led by Professor Surat Laphookhieo, Dean of the School of Science, and Assistant Professor Dr. Kitiphong Khongphinitbunjong, Assistant to the Dean. They were warmly received by Professor John Moraros, Dean of the School of Science at XJTLU, along with other faculty members, including Professor Li Yang, Dr. Sekar Raju, Dr. Lifeng Ding, Dr. Shuihua Wang, Dr. Lee Wei Lim, and Dr. Chun Chan.
During the visit, both parties engaged in productive discussions focused on research collaboration, student exchange opportunities at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and the development of joint academic initiatives. One of the key outcomes of the meeting was the agreement to co-organize an international symposium at XJTLU in Suzhou later this year, which will bring together researchers and students from several institutions to share knowledge and foster academic exchange.
The two universities also explored opportunities for undergraduate student exchanges, joint research work, including summer research internships and semester-long credit mobility programs at both institutions. In addition, Professor Moraros highlighted the potential for collaborative teaching initiatives, which would enhance the international exposure of students and deepen institutional ties.
The MFU delegation toured XJTLU’s campus and visited several laboratories within the School of Science, gaining insights into the university’s research facilities and academic environment.
Professor Moraros stated: “MFU is a young but quite accomplished and globally recognized top university that mirrors the rapid growth, success and trajectory of our XJTU. Our two Schools of Science share many common research interests, similar curricula and a strong commitment to academic excellence. Finally, Thailand and China are linked by strong cultural ties premised on a long history, deep respect and close ties between the two nations. Therefore, MFU is a natural partner and we are excited to work closely and collaboratively to provide mobility opportunities for our students, support the exchange visits of faculty and engage in activities that lead to the overall betterment of our respective universities.” Both institutions expressed strong enthusiasm for moving forward with concrete partnership activities and are committed to building a long-term, mutually beneficial relationship that supports international education and research excellence.
