On 1 September 2025, the International Business School Suzhou (IBSS) at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) hosted the  Tsinghua–XJTLU Joint Research Workshop at the SIP-South Campus. With  the theme “Emerging Topics in Intelligent Operations and Marketing,” the workshop brought together leading experts and scholars from Tsinghua University, Beijing Jiaotong University, Guangdong University of Technology, Jiangsu Normal University, and XJTLU to share insights on the latest research and innovative practices in the digital era.

The event opened with a keynote address by Professor Yongbo Xiao of Tsinghua University. In his remarks, Professor Xiao reflected on the rapid development of the field, shared his academic journey and early-career researchers to pair strong theoretical foundations with creativity and innovation in the AI era.

The workshop featured diverse sessions covering livestreaming commerce, pricing strategies, and supply chain resilience. Dr Demei Kong from Tsinghua University examined the relative importance of domain knowledge and sales expertise in driving livestreaming success, while Associate Professor Cui Zhao from Beijing Jiaotong University highlighted the dual role of influencer content in online retail – posing whether it guides or misleads consumers. Dr Chen Hu of XJTLU further expanded the discussion by exploring human–AI collaboration and substitution in AI-powered livestreaming.

Turning to pricing and sales models, Dr Zhe Lin of XJTLU analysed the impact of buyer visits and relisting behavior on dynamic pricing in the resale housing market. Associate Professor Xigang Yuan from Jiangsu Normal University presented strategies for deciding between selling and leasing new energy vehicles, offering practical implications for industry.

Supply chain and consumer behavior were also key areas of focus. Dr Haoruo Zhu from Tsinghua University examined how panic buying during rare disruptions affects strategic stocking decisions, while Dr Yuqiu Xu considered optimal timing strategies for firms hedging against trade tariffs. Scholars including Associate Professor Qiang Lin (Guangdong University of Technology), Associate Professor Junyi Lin, Dr Qian Luo, and Dr Nicholas Yeo from XJTLU also actively engaged in in-depth discussions across the sessions.

By fostering academic exchange and collaboration, the workshop provided a valuable platform for scholars and practitioners to explore innovative solutions and strengthen inter-university collaboration. IBSS remains committed to advancing interdisciplinary research and fostering international partnerships to address the opportunities and challenges of the digital age.
