On 5 September, the International Business School Suzhou (IBSS) at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) officially held its induction for the 2025 postgraduate intake. New students from various countries, including China, Russia, and Indonesia, attended the event in person, embracing the upcoming new academic journey.

Professor Hefei Wang, Deputy Dean of IBSS, first extended a warm welcome to all newly onboarding students on behalf of the school. She stated that IBSS is committed to helping every student grow into an independent and intrinsically motivated outstanding talent. “Whether you choose to enter enterprises, engage in academic research, or serve in government departments in the future, you will possess core competitiveness with the capabilities accumulated here. I sincerely wish all of you every success in your future academic and professional paths, and a prosperous future ahead.”

The induction covered key information to help students adapt to university life and career planning. Sessions introduced the Business School’s diverse teaching practices, programme directors, internationalisation support, career initiatives, alumni networks, and the development advisor system focusing on wellbeing., This established a comprehensive support framework for incoming students, spanning from campus adaptation to future planning.

Addressing the students’ concerns about academic activity arrangements, Dr Nimesh Salike, Associate Dean for Learning and Teaching, emphasised that the school’s teaching system deeply integrates practical elements such as field trips and case studies, and always revolves around three core themes: artificial intelligence, sustainability, and internationalisation. It aims to foster students’ comprehensive academic literacy and practical innovative thinking in an all-round way. Professor Ewout van der Schaft, Associate Dean for Internationalisation, further introduced the school’s high-quality international exchange resource — the QTEM (Quantitative Techniques for Economics and Management) programme. This programme offers students a valuable opportunity to study abroad for one semester at top business schools worldwide without tuition fees, helping them broaden their international academic horizons.

After participating in the induction, many students expressed that the school’s abundant academic resources and distinctive programmes had left a deep impression on them. Bobby Sukarno, an Indonesian student in MSc Business Analytics, admitted, “China’s development speed in the field of AI is remarkable. I look forward to systematically learning more relevant professional knowledge here while improving my Mandarin.” Aurelio Darren Savero, an Indonesian classmate on the same programme, was full of expectations for the QTEM programme: “The QTEM programme provides us with an additional opportunity to enrich our resumés [CV’s] and enhance ourselves.”

In addition, to help students transition more smoothly into professional life, the school has established a dedicated Work Placement, Employability and Career Development (WEC) Team. According to Ms Yidan Liu, the transferable skills training specialist, the team regularly plans and organises activities such as career lectures, on-campus recruitment fairs, corporate visits, and career development bootcamps. It also provides internship and full-time job resources, comprehensively developing students’ transferable skills, self-management skills, career development skills, and job-hunting skills.

MRes Management student Yuke Xue, commented after the event that the rich activity system established by the university provides strong support for students’ study and life, making her full of expectations for the upcoming campus life.

The event provided newly onboarding students with comprehensive information and support, demonstrating the school’s strengths and features in teaching, internationalisation, career development, and student growth. The induction gave students a comprehensive introduction to IBSS, laying a strong foundation for their future studies and growth.
