2025 Suzhou University Workshop on Financial Mathematics & Actuarial Science was successfully held at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) on 28–29 August. Organised by the Department of Financial and Actuarial Mathematics within XJTLU’s School of Mathematics and Physics, the forum brought together leading experts and scholars from universities and research institutes in China and abroad to engage in in-depth discussions on cutting-edge topics in financial mathematics, actuarial science, quantitative finance and data science.

At the opening ceremony, Professor Conghua Wen, Head of the Department of Financial and Actuarial Mathematics, remarked:
“The presentations at this forum include both pioneering explorations of theoretical methods and application-oriented research closely tied to real-world problems, fully demonstrating the diversity and vitality of the field. We hope that such exchanges will foster interdisciplinary collaboration and promote the deeper integration of academic research with practical applications.”

Over the two-day event, academics from institutions including Tsinghua University, Soochow University, Suzhou University of Science and Technology, and the University of Edinburgh delivered academic talks. Topics ranged from derivative pricing, risk management and insurance actuarial studies to applications of data science in finance and actuarial science. The forum also paid special attention to emerging areas such as artificial intelligence, big data and sustainable finance, highlighting the vast potential of interdisciplinary research.

The forum was supported by the Journal of Chinese Economic and Business Studies and the Journal of Digital Economy, which will jointly publish a special issue entitled Data Science in Quantitative Finance, Actuarial Science, and Sustainable Finance. The issue will focus on the role of data science in these fields, with submissions open until 31 January 2026.

Through this forum, participants not only shared the latest progress in their academic and practical explorations but also laid the groundwork for future collaboration. The event provided fresh impetus for advancing disciplinary development and contributing to wider societal progress.
