Recently, Stanford University and the internationally renowned academic publisher Elsevier jointly released the 2025 World’s Top 2% Scientists List. Dr Jianli Hao, Senior Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University’s Design School, was selected for the 2025 Single-year Impact Ranking.
Dr Hao’s inclusion represents international recognition of her scholarly achievements and research impact in her field. It also demonstrates XJTLU’s growing strength in discipline development, talent cultivation, and research capacity, contributing positively to the university’s global academic influence.
The World’s Top 2% Scientists List is divided into two categories: the Career-long Impact Ranking and the Single-year Impact Ranking. From nearly seven million scientists worldwide, it identifies the top 2% based on a comprehensive set of indicators, including total citation counts, h-index, co-author–adjusted hm-index, and citation counts of papers authored as sole or first author. The ranking covers 22 scientific fields and 174 sub-fields. The Career-long Impact Ranking evaluates scientists’ overall academic performance across their careers, while the Single-year Impact Ranking highlights their academic influence in the most recent year. According to the 2025 list, 12,374 scholars from China were included in the Career-long Impact Ranking, and 31,685 scholars were selected for the Single-year Impact Ranking.
