This semester, the “POWER YOUR POINTS (PYP)” public speaking training, hosted by the WEC Team (Work Placement, Employability and Career Development) with ALC (Academic Language Centre) participating for the first time, concluded successfully. This is the sixth edition of the programme. Across three sessions, nearly 60 students attended as audience members, while 16 students delivered speeches, including international students from Indonesia, Uzbekistan, and Spain, showcasing the school’s diverse and open environment for exchange.

As a flagship initiative developed by the school over the past three years to enhance students’ public speaking skills, PYP has attracted a total of 100 undergraduate and postgraduate participants, among whom 65 students successfully presented on stage. Notably, many students have leveraged PYP as a platform to reach broader English-speaking audiences. In this year’s National “Belt and Road Initiative” Simulation Negotiation Competition, all four gold award winners were PYP participants. Starting from this programme, they have continuously trained and practiced, earning further accolades on campus and beyond, and have become influential young public speakers.

This edition of the programme continued to focus on the four key areas: Structured Delivery, Content Presentation, Visual Design, and Stage Presence, providing participants with systematic training, one-on-one coaching, and personalized action reports. Students were evaluated across five comprehensive dimensions—speech structure, content, visual impact, audience interaction and delivery, and confidence—ensuring feedback that is authentic, professional, and growth-oriented.

This semester, 14 industry guest judges from sectors including education, medical, and finance participated, eight of whom joined for the first time. The PYP judge pool has now expanded to 44 industry experts, covering consulting, human resources, life sciences, accounting and taxation, IT, education, fashion, and finance, offering students continuous, multidimensional, real-world industry perspectives.

Additionally, two outstanding former participants returned as hosts, showcasing the confidence and professional expression developed through continuous practice. From speakers to hosts, they serve as visible, learnable, and achievable role models for current students.

Looking ahead, the IBSS WEC Team will continue to further develop the “Power Your Points” programme, providing students with sustainable platforms to strengthen communication and presentation skills, helping them to project clear, confident, and powerful voices across broader academic and professional stages.
