On 4 December, 2025, Mr Ying Wu, Executive Director of the Corporate Banking Department at BMCE Bank of Africa’s Shanghai Branch, delivered a specialized lecture for students in the MSc Professional Accounting program at the International Business School Suzhou (IBSS), Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University. The seminar, titled "Investment Opportunities and Career Development in Sino-African Economic and Trade Cooperation," provided forward-looking and practical guidance for career planning.

With 25 years of extensive experience in the banking industry, Mr. Wu systematically analyzed current employment trends in cross-border finance from four key dimensions: industry landscape, talent demand, competency frameworks, and career pathways. He highlighted that the annual trade volume between China and Africa has exceeded RMB 2.1 trillion (2024 data), generating significant demand for professionals in cross-border finance, international auditing, and cross-border financing—thereby opening new career pathways for accounting and finance graduates. Using Morocco, the "Gateway to North Africa," as a case study, he explained how the country's expanding cross-border operations under free trade agreements have created a pressing need for talent skilled in multinational financial accounting, cross-border compliance, and international transaction services. This presents distinct and strategic career opportunities for IBSS accounting graduates.

Mr Wu also detailed the recruitment criteria of BMCE Bank of Africa, emphasizing the dual importance of professional expertise and an international perspective for roles such as cross-border transaction settlement and financial consulting for investment projects. Through real-world case studies, he helped students better understand industry trends, clarify their professional positioning, and avoid common pitfalls in the job market.

The seminar was closely aligned with the career development needs of IBSS postgraduate students, effectively integrating industry insights with practical experience. It broadened students' global employment perspectives and provided actionable strategies for career advancement. Moving forward, IBSS will continue to foster industry connections and provide resources that enhance students' professional competitiveness and empower them to achieve greater success on the global stage.
