XJTLU Language Competition 2026 successfully held

The XJTLU Language Competition 2026 Awards Ceremony was held on 9th April 2026 after four weeks of competitions, bringing together staff and students to celebrate excellence in multilingual language learning and public speaking. The event was organised by the Global Cultures and Languages Hub (GCLH), with support from the XJTLU Student Club Support Centre, Everything You Know Club, the Student English Association and the Japanese Language Club, the event marked a vibrant celebration of student achievement. The ceremony was hosted by Liqun Pan and Bertus Fourie, GCLH Competition Coordinators.

The evening began with remarks from both academic and student representatives, including Paula Gibson, Deputy Head of the English Language Centre and GCLH Lead Competition Coordinator; Simon Sheridan, Head of the Academic Literacies Centre; and student pathway coordinators from the English, Spanish and Japanese competition streams. Their speeches underscored the value of language learning not only as an essential part of academic development, but also as a powerful way to build confidence, foster intercultural understanding and strengthen students’ global communication skills.

The ceremony celebrated achievement across four competition categories: Year 1 English, Spanish, Japanese and Year 2+ English. Alongside the presentation of awards, the programme featured speeches from prize winners, reflections from judges, highlights recap videos and a group photo session, all of which contributed to a warm, lively and celebratory atmosphere.

The awards ceremony provided a fitting finale to this year’s competition programme, celebrating not only prize-winning performances but also the enthusiasm, commitment and intercultural engagement of the wider student community.

Through collaboration between staff, student organisers and participating clubs, the event highlighted the vibrancy of language learning at XJTLU and offered an encouraging platform for students to develop confidence, expression and global outlooks.
