The theme series activities of the Earth Week in the College of Science have come to a successful conclusion! This event was jointly organized by the Chemistry and Materials Science Society. A highly interesting and practical project on the preparation of biodegradable bioplastics was successfully completed.
In response to the Earth Week environmental protection campaign and to convey the concept of green materials, we stepped out of the textbooks and engaged in practical operations. Using food-grade gelatin, glycerin, unscented soap base, and distilled water - these safe and commonly available ingredients - we initiated a "green creation" event for science students.

From weighing the ratios, heating and stirring, to the thorough mixing of the soap base solution and the gel-glycerol solution; from meticulous color adjustment and air inflation to pouring into the mold and cooling to solidify and form, every step is filled with the charm of science. The students operated carefully and cooperatively, witnessing the liquid raw materials gradually solidifying into biodegradable plastics with their own eyes. They experienced the magic of polymer materials through hands-on activities and understood the significant value of green materials in practice.

There is no boring theoretical indoctrination, only immersive scientific experiences. Everyone learns the principle of biodegradability through experiments, improves their experimental skills during the operation process, and internalizes the concepts of low-carbon environmental protection and sustainable development in a relaxed atmosphere. Using their expertise in chemistry and materials, they contribute to protecting the Earth.
With science as our wings and environmental protection as our responsibility. This Earth Week event is not only an interesting practical experience, but also a wonderful collaboration between the College of Science and the Chemistry and Materials Science Society. We connect knowledge with life through experiments and interpret the responsibility of young people through actions, allowing the concept of greenness to take root and grow on the campus.
Thank you to all the participants for your enthusiastic participation. In the future, the College of Science and the Chemistry and Materials Science Society will continue to collaborate, bringing more professional, interesting and meaningful science popularization activities. With the power of materials science, let's protect our common home together!
