IBSS Trading Floor hosts financial database training sessions

As global financial markets continue to evolve and digital transformation accelerates, the ability to access, analyse and apply data has become essential for business education and financial research.
To support academic research, teaching and professional practice across the School, International Business School Suzhou (IBSS) Trading Floor recently hosted four specialised financial database training sessions for staff and students.
The sessions were delivered by professional instructors from major financial database providers and introduced participants to platform functions, data retrieval methods and practical applications.

Building confidence with financial databases

From 26 to 28 May, the Trading Floor hosted three consecutive days of training on Bloomberg, Wind and LSEG Workspace. Widely used by investment banks, financial institutions, corporate research teams and universities, these platforms serve as important sources of for business teaching, financial analysis and academic research.

During the three-day training series, instructors from each platform provided introductions to the core functions and real-world uses of their respective databases. The Bloomberg session focused on real-time tracking of macroeconomic indicators and commodity markets. The Wind session explored data retrieval, intelligent investment research and multi-dimensional data extraction within China’s financial markets. The LSEG Workspace session introduced global market analysis tools for foreign exchange, equities and wealth management.

Through presentations and hands-on demonstrations, participants learned about each platform’s data structures, search logic and commonly used functions. For students new to financial databases, the sessions provided a strong foundation, For staff and students with more advanced research or teaching needs they offered more targeted guidance and practical problem-solving support.

 

Expanding access to S&P Capital IQ Pro

Building on the May training series, the Trading Floor held an additional specialised training session on S&P Capital IQ Pro on 4 June. The training introduced the platform’s capabilities in industry analysis, company fundamentals research, market monitoring and real-time dashboard creation. It also helped staff and students further expand their access to high-quality financial data and improve the efficiency of data processing in research and teaching.

Bridging Classroom theory and practice

For business school staff and students, industry-standard financial databases provide an important bridge between classroom theory, academic research and real-world market practice.

Held from late May to early June, this training series helped students strengthen their understanding of financial data, improve their data retrieval and analytical skills, and gain practical experience with tools widely used in the financial sector.  It also provided stronger technical support for teaching case development, curriculum design and academic research.

Looking ahead, the IBSS Trading Floor will continue supporting teaching and research by keeping pace with developments in financial technology and data platforms. It will also continue to provide technical support, specialised training and workshops for staff and students.

By further optimising its hardware, software and operational services, the Trading Floor aims to provide professional and efficient financial laboratory resources while supporting IBSS’s research and business talent development.
