Overview


Against the backdrop of the vigorous development of the artificial intelligence industry, including big data and virtual reality, in order to further promote deep cooperation between government, industry, academia, and research, innovate the technological system of universities serving localities and industries, and drive XJTLU to collaborate with the government and enterprises to construct an open innovation platform for sustainable development, enhancing research and development capabilities, accelerating the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, and serving regional economic development, achieving comprehensive improvement in technology, talent, disciplines, and industries. XJTLU officially established the AI University Research Centre (AI-URC) in 2017.

Structures and Functions

The AI-URC is structured as follows, adopting a management mechanism that combines advisors, a teaching committee, and an international technical advisory committee. It integrates the high-quality resources of Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University and Liverpool University, fully leveraging its own international characteristics and advantages, aiming to strengthen the connection between academic research in artificial intelligence and its related industries. The institute includes three key laboratories: Suzhou Municipal Key Laboratory of Cognitive Computation and Applied Technology, Suzhou Municipal Key Laboratory for New Energy Techniques, and the Suzhou Municipal Key Lab for Intelligent Virtual Engineering. AI-URC actively fosters an open, inclusive, and innovative research environment, encourages and supports student ideas and entrepreneurship, and assists students in transitioning from theory to practice. Additionally, the institute has established an Artificial Intelligence Training Center, providing diploma and training services to promote local professionals’ understanding of AI and enhance the region’s professional capabilities in this field. The laboratories are also eager to provide relevant support to businesses, serving small and medium-sized enterprises in need and giving back to society.

 

 The XJTLU AI Open Innovation Platform

The XJTLU AI Open Innovation Platform focuses on key areas of artificial intelligence, fully leveraging the leading role of universities, industry-leading enterprises, and research institutions to effectively integrate technical and industrial chain resources and continuously output core R&D and service capabilities in artificial intelligence.

The platform focuses primarily on intelligent vision, visual computing, basic artificial intelligence, and general technology. Its main tasks are as follows:

Providing support for fundamental key technologies and common technologies.

Serving as a link for close cooperation between the upstream and downstream of the industrial chain, promoting the construction of the industrial ecological system.

Aiming to develop the open platform into a role as a co-creation space and an incubator, assisting traditional enterprises in transformation and upgrading, and supporting the growth of startups.

The XJTLU AI Open Innovation Platform mainly includes:

  1. In the past two years, we have published research results at top AI conferences such as CVPR, AAAI, and ECCV. In order to better serve the local industry, we will introduce our achievements and how to download the open-source code on this platform.
  2. We also welcome AI developers to upload and share their achievements and open-source code.
  3. Our open-source code has also been deployed on the XJTLU GPU computing cluster and is easily accessible to local enterprises through the Inspur AI Station software platform for the latest research results.
