To deepen collaboration among government, industry, academia, and research, and to promote the joint construction of an open innovation platform with the government and enterprises, XJTLU officially established the AI University Research Centre (AI-URC) in 2017. The Centre is dedicated to innovating the scientific and technological systems of universities to serve local industries and regional development, enhancing R&D capabilities, accelerating technology transfer, and supporting regional economic growth through a sustainable development mechanism, thereby achieving the comprehensive advancement of technology, talent, disciplines, and industry.

The Centre adopts a management structure comprising an Advisory Committee, a Teaching Committee, and an International Technical Advisory Committee. It integrates the high-quality resources of Xi’an Jiaotong University and the University of Liverpool, fully leveraging its international characteristics and advantages to strengthen the link between AI academic research and industrial applications. The Centre comprises several core research platforms, including the Suzhou Municipal Key Laboratory of Intelligent Virtual Engineering, the Suzhou Municipal Key Laboratory of Cognitive Computing and Applied Technology, and the Suzhou Municipal Key Laboratory of New Energy Techniques. AI-URC actively fosters an open, inclusive, and innovative research environment, encourages student entrepreneurship, and has established an AI Training Centre to provide diploma and technical training services, thereby enhancing regional AI capabilities, serving SMEs, and giving back to society.
The XJTLU AI Open Innovation Platform
The Centre has established the XJTLU AI Open Innovation Platform, focusing on intelligent vision and visual computing, to integrate resources from universities, enterprises, and research institutions and to continuously deliver core AI R&D and service capabilities. The platform’s main functions include:
Open Sharing of Achievements: The Centre has published multiple results at top conferences, including CVPR, AAAI, and ECCV, in recent years. The platform provides open-source code downloads and, via the XJTLU GPU computing cluster and the Inspur AI Station software platform, offers local enterprises trial access to the latest algorithms.
Collaborative Innovation: AI developers are welcome to upload and share their achievements. Please send open-source code and descriptions to AOA@xjtlu.edu.cn. Following expert review, the code will be published on the platform to help build an open and innovative AI ecosystem.
