The NextGen PharmaX Proof-of-Concept Centre

The NextGen PharmaX Proof-of-Concept Centre

Overview

The NextGen PharmaX Proof-of-Concept Centre was jointly established in November 2024 by the XJTLU Wisdom Lake Academy of Pharmacy and the National Bio-Pharmaceutical Technology Innovation Center (NTICB). The Centre serves as a specialised platform dedicated to enabling the “0-to-1” translation of cutting-edge biopharmaceutical innovations, helping breakthrough technologies successfully bridge the critical first stage of technology commercialisation.

Key Features: The Centre focuses on addressing clinical needs in key therapeutic areas, including oncology, metabolic diseases, central nervous system (CNS) disorders, and immunological diseases. Leveraging XJTLU’s high-performance computing platform, more than 60 advanced analytical instruments, over 4,200 m² of laboratory space, a 2,000 m² laboratory animal centre, 19 research groups, and 12 expert advisors from industry and investment sectors, the Centre provides comprehensive preclinical research services. Supported by strong academic expertise and well-established research infrastructure, the Centre serves as a key hub for accelerating the translation of laboratory discoveries into clinical applications and commercial products through technical feasibility validation and commercial value assessment, while reducing early-stage innovation risks.

Service Model

  1. Resource Sharing Services

Open access to laboratory facilities, advanced instrumentation, high-performance computing resources, and clinical research platforms, together with supporting infrastructure such as an SPF laboratory animal centre.

  1. End-to-End Validation Services

Targeted technical validation driven by clinical needs, covering key stages including druggability evaluation, early-stage regulatory assessment, and minimum viable product (MVP) development.

  1. Resource Matching Services

Facilitating connections with investors, industry partners, and intellectual property stakeholders through dedicated collaboration channels. The Centre supports project financing and technology licensing through activities such as project roadshows and technology showcase events.

Supporting Resources

Supported by seven technology platforms within the Wisdom Lake Academy of Pharmacy, the Centre provides technical capabilities spanning the entire innovative drug development pipeline.

  1. Drug Design, Screening & Discovery
  2. Biomarker Discovery & Validation
  3. Drug Delivery & Novel Formulation Research
  4. Intelligent Pharmaceutical Manufacturing
  5. Organoid-based Druggability Evaluation
  6. Pharmacometrics
  7. Innovative Drug Lifecycle Regulation & Management

The Centre has been successfully selected for the Suzhou Technology Translation Platform Development Programme and has been recognised as the Suzhou AI-Driven Biopharmaceutical Proof-of-Concept (PoC) Centre. It is also an important member of the Proof-of-Concept Alliance of the Suzhou Biomedicine Transformation Sub-centre under the National University Technology Transfer Center for Biomedicine (NUTCB).
