The Intelligent Mediamatics and Data Science Research Centre (IMDS) develops human-centred, data-driven, and AI-enabled approaches for understanding, communicating, and interacting with complex information. The Centre brings together expertise in immersive visualisation, spatial computing, human-computer interaction, human-AI and human-agent interaction, extended reality, multimodal interaction, embodied intelligence, cultural and educational technologies, data-driven socio-technical systems, AI for healthcare and science, intelligent optimisation, digital twins, industrial AI, energy data intelligence, and physical-world intelligence.
We aim to create reusable methods, interactive systems, and intelligent platforms that help people explore complex data, interpret AI-generated results, interact with socially embodied intelligent agents, and collaborate across real, virtual, and mixed environments. Our research connects foundational questions in visual computing, human-AI communication, trustworthy and adaptive interaction, data intelligence, and socio-technical systems with application domains including healthcare, cultural heritage, education, cybersecurity, energy systems, smart industry, virtual engineering, rehabilitation, and autonomous environments.
