Undergraduate students from XJTLU and XJTLU’s international partner universities who are currently registered in stage 1, 2 or 3 are eligible to participate in SURF projects.
The main applicants of a SURF project must be students currently registered at XJTLU on an undergraduate degree programme. Students whose enrolment status is suspension are not eligible to apply.
Requirements for projects
SURF is an extracurricular non-credit bearing project. The project cannot be a substitute for or count towards a Final Year Project.
SURF can, in certain cases, be used to fulfill programme-level Work Placement requirements. It is the responsibility of the student to work separately with his/her academic unit to obtain the appropriate approvals and complete all relevant requirements.
The duration of a project is typically 10 weeks, although projects as short as five weeks will be considered. The project should be undertaken from after final exams to late August.
SURF Programme Procedure
SURF Project List Release
After the internal review and approval procedures within the University, the list of funded SURF projects will be released on e-Bridge for students to consult.
Student Application
Students can then apply to be a SURF research fellow for specific projects on e-Bridge. Students can apply to a maximum of three projects and be recruited in one project in each year.
When applying for external SURF projects supervised and funded by external supervisors, the students are advised to carefully check the company introduction, requirements on location and attendance before applying.
The user guide and video tutorial can be accessed via e-Bridge -> Research Support -> User Guide and Video Tutorial.
SURF Supervisor Select Students
Supervisor select suitable students onto their project based on the application documents submitted by students (e.g. student information, background, CV) with respect to the needs of the research project.
Project Completion
The project should be undertaken from the end of the final examinations in semester two to late August.
After the completion of the project, students will be required to present their findings on a poster during the SURF Poster Fair in the following Semester.
Certificate Issuance
Students will be given a certificate of participation after the successful completion of their research activity and the presentation of their findings. There will also be SURF winner certificates for outstanding SURF project teams.
For students who withdraw from or fail to complete a project, no certificate will be awarded. Research Management Office will confirm with supervisor the actual participating student list.
