John Heaney is a Lecturer in English Literature. His interests include modernism, philosophy and literature, Irish writing, and the relationship between postmodernism and postcolonialism. His research focuses on the literary influence of the German philosopher, Arthur Schopenhauer, as well as the thinkers he influenced—Nietzsche, Bergson, Weininger, Jung, Freud, Einstein and Heidegger.
Some of the authors he is interested in include James Joyce, Wyndham Lewis, DH Lawrence, Thomas Hardy, Oscar Wilde, WB Yeats, Samuel Beckett, Flann O’Brien, and Elizabeth Bowen.
He is currently working on a book, Harbinger of Modernism: Arthur Schopenhauer and Anglophone Literature, which will be published by Palgrave Macmillan in 2019.
