活动简介

In my talk, I will overview the history and latest status of public and private broadcasters in Japan from the viewpoint of services, corporate governance, and funding. The digital switchover of terrestrial broadcasting was done and Japanese broadcasters now have their TV content available on the internet as simultaneous delivery or catch-up services. Concerning the public broadcaster, NHK, license fee systems have also been revised to meet the expanding online services. Corporate governance systems are also being altered. Both public and private broadcasters keep reforming themselves to respond to the changes in the media landscape. I will give the audience and students the viewpoint of re-considering the traditional question—“What responsibilities and roles should broadcasters fulfil?”.
