Overview

The interdisciplinary BA English and Finance programme combines English language and finance 50-50 with the aim of producing graduates who have an excellent command of English and a critical awareness of the use of language in a financial context.

English modules offer a wide choice of topics, such as linguistics, literature, interpreting and translation. In Finance modules, you will study economics and finance and financial mathematics alongside students in XJTLU's International Business School Suzhou (IBSS).

Knowledge and skills

By the time you graduate from the BA English and Finance programme, you will have:

  • the ability to communicate professionally in English, using the language confidently to analyse financial issues
  • the skills to apply a range of accounting and quantitative techniques
  • a good working knowledge of financial economics and financial markets.

Graduates from this programme will be well-prepared for positions such as administrative, managerial, accounting and consultancy positions within international organisations, as well professional translator or interpreter.

Graduates may also choose to go onto further study in the areas of English language and finance.

English, finance and technical skills are three vital factors in the road map to success. You are not simply learning spoken English on this programme, you will also acquire professional business communication skills and the ability to understand and analyse global financial issues.

 After graduation from XJTLU I did a Master of Finance at Hult International School and am now working as a compliance analyst at Google in San Francisco.
