Alumni from around the country have come back to Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University to celebrate 2018 Homecoming Day.
Professor Qiuling Chao, vice president of XJTLU, welcomed the alumni ‘home’ on behalf of the University.
“The quality and performance of alumni is a testament to the quality of a university,” she said.
“The high calibre and international perspective of XJTLU’s alumni is being recognised in China and they are also earning an excellent reputation internationally.”
During Homecoming Day, six new Alumni Association department branches were founded.
Professor Chao said different branches based on cities or departments provided alumni with professional and tailored support as graduates forged their careers in different fields around the world.
Professor Kaizhu Huang, Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, said he supported the establishment of the department-based branches of the Alumni Association.
“From an academic perspective, our alumni know the demands of the market and the industry so they can also help us improve our teaching models,” he said.
Homecoming Day also saw the appointment of 23 new alumni ambassadors, charged with connecting alumni with their departments, and strengthening communications across the XJTLU alumni community.
Zhihui Qi, a graduate from the Department of Chemistry, was hired as the alumni ambassador for graduates of Applied Chemistry in 2017. She said she was looking forward to playing a part in XJTLU’s history.
“World-famous universities cement their reputation through their alumni,” she said.
“XJTLU’s reputation relies on our alumni. Rather than just wait for that history to happen over time, I want to be part of creating it for the University.”
The XJTLU Alumni Association also launched the XJTLU Alumni Global Player Club Programme, which is dedicated to offering individualised support and career development to alumni.
The 2018 XJTLU Homecoming Day event was organised by the Alumni Affairs Team of the Student Admissions and Career Development Office.
