Four academics named Highly Cited Chinese Researchers in 2023

Four academics from Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University have been included in Elsevier’s 2023 list of Highly Cited Chinese Researchers, one of the world’s most prestigious rankings spotlighting esteemed scholars. The list includes both Chinese and international academics affiliated with Chinese universities, enterprises, and research institutes.

The newly released list features 5,801 individuals from 496 universities, enterprises, and research institutes across 84 primary disciplines. Among them are:

  • Professor Adam Cross, XJTLU’s Associate Vice President, Education, who appears in the list for the third consecutive year;
  • Professor Xuezhong He from the Department of Finance in the International Business School Suzhou (second consecutive year);
  • Professor Huiqing Wen, Executive Dean of the XJTLU-JITRI Academy of Industrial Technology; and
  • Associate Professor Shuihua Wang from the Department of Biological Sciences in XJTLU’s School of Science (fourth consecutive year).

Based on data from Scopus, a global platform for information on academic publications, authors, and citations, the annual list demonstrates the distribution of talent across diverse research fields in China. It also displays the strength and academic influence of Chinese universities and institutes in their flagship disciplines, and spotlights top talent in key research areas.

The repeated appearance of XJTLU academics in the Elsevier rankings proves the University’s strength across multiple disciplines.

According to Essential Science Indicators, an analytical tool used to identify top-performing research, XJTLU ranks in the top 1% globally in engineering, computer science, general social sciences, and ecology and environmental sciences. Over the past five years, the University has made significant contributions in the fields of engineering, economics, and business, with highly cited papers in computer science, ecology, and environmental sciences.
