On March 20, 2026, the on-site performance and award ceremony of The Voice & Vision Creative Translation and Dubbing Contest was successfully held at the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University.

Dr. Wan Hu, Head of the Department of Literary and Translation Studies, delivered the opening speech for the contest.

She pointed out that as we navigate this era of deep human-AI collaboration, one thing becomes increasingly clear: creative ability is not just valuable—it is indispensable. While technology can assist us in countless ways, it is human creativity, emotional intelligence and cultural sensitivity that truly set us apart.

What you have created today—multimedia works that blend language, visuals, and storytelling—may well represent the future direction of our industries. The ability to craft compelling narratives across languages and platforms is becoming ever more essential in our interconnected world.

Professional Judging Panel:

Multi-dimensional Evaluation with Precise Comments and Guidance

The contest invited professional teachers from different departments to form a judging panel, which conducted a comprehensive evaluation based on multiple dimensions including translation accuracy, creative adaptation, dubbing expressiveness, audio-visual synchronization, emotional delivery, and overall completion.

Contest Overview: University-wide Participation with Diverse and Splendid Creations

The contest was open to all students, supporting the participation of individuals or teams composed of 1–4 members. Ten excellent teams or individuals competed on site. Participants independently selected Chinese and English video materials, completed translations and adaptations, audio removal and independent dubbing and post-production of works no longer than 3 minutes.

All participants delivered impressive and amazing performances. They demonstrated outstanding innovation, performance, emotional expressiveness, and language skills in dubbing in a natural and idiomatic style, bringing the audience into the context of the works.

The entries were diverse in style, with outstanding highlights:

Individual participants switched between multiple roles with precise intonation control, showing strong voice-shaping abilities;

Some creators flexibly used multiple languages and dialects to perform, injecting distinct cultural characteristics into their works;

Exchange students demonstrated their second-language learning by completingdubbing and translation in Chinese, vividly presenting the unique charm of cross-cultural communication;

The teams endowed their characters with vitality through cooperation and vivid emotions.

The on-site judges gave detailed comments on each group's performance and provided professional suggestions on translation skills, dubbing rhythm, emotional control, creative adaptation and other aspects, benefiting all participants.
