From institutional practice to global dialogue.
As Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) marks its 20th anniversary, Syntegrative Education is taking an important step onto the international stage. Liverpool University Press has selected the development of a landmark international edited volume dedicated to Syntegrative Education, with Dr Victor (Vik) Perez, Associate Professor at XJTLU's Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Hub (EEH), serving as Chief Editor.
The project, titled Beyond Boundaries: Syntegrative Education for Global Impact, aims to bring together international scholars, educators, industry practitioners, and educational innovators to explore the principles, applications, best practices, and future directions of Syntegrative Education.
This comes at a time when universities worldwide are rethinking how to prepare learners for complex, technology-rich, and industry-connected futures.
The development builds on the recent launch of The Book of Syntegrative Education: A New Education Model for the Future. Taken together, they signal a new phase in the international evolution of Syntegrative Education — from its institutional articulation and practice at XJTLU to its wider exploration through international scholarly contributions and global dialogue.
Designed as a multidisciplinary volume, the book aims to bring together perspectives from education, industry, entrepreneurship, technology, and innovation to explore how Syntegrative Education can prepare learners for increasingly complex and interconnected futures. The publication will examine both established and emerging dimensions of the field, including interdisciplinary learning, industry-integrated education, entrepreneurial transformation, authentic assessment, co-creation with industry partners, AI-enhanced educational ecosystems, neurotechnologies for collaborative learning, immersive realities, and pathways for scaling Syntegrative Education through global networks.
By bringing together international scholarly and practitioner perspectives, the volume seeks to provide educators, researchers, policymakers, and institutional leaders with insights, frameworks, and examples that can inform the future development of educational systems in diverse contexts worldwide.
Dr Perez commented: "One of the defining educational questions of our time is no longer simply what students should learn, but how educational systems can prepare them to navigate complexity, uncertainty, and interconnectedness. Syntegrative Education represents an emerging response to that challenge. This volume seeks to contribute to a growing global conversation on the future of learning."
An international Call for Chapters will be announced in due course, inviting contributions from scholars, educators, and practitioners interested in shaping the next stage of Syntegrative Education's development and expanding its international conversation.
As XJTLU enters its third decade and advances its 4.0 vision, the initiative reflects the University's continued commitment to educational innovation and the development of a syntegrative ecosystem that connects education, industry, technology, and society. Through the international dissemination of Syntegrative Education, the project aims to contribute to global conversations on the future of higher education, lifelong learning, and educational transformation.
