Professor Zhijie Xu 

Professor Zhijie Xu is the Head of the Department of Computing at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU). A distinguished scholar in visual computing, he brings over 30 years of extensive experience in curriculum development, scientific publication, doctoral supervision, and academic leadership.

His excellence has been recognized through numerous prestigious awards, including the National High-Level Talent (Ministry of Science and Technology, 2025), the Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP) Science and Education Leading Talent (2024), the Sichuan “1000 Talents Plan” (2018), and the Sichuan Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award (2017).

Professor Xu previously served as the President of the Chinese Automation and Computing Society in the UK (CACSUK). To date, he has published over 200 academic papers, holds 11 international patents, and has edited 6 academic monographs. He possesses profound expertise in leading research institutions, managing major research projects, and navigating the UK’s Research Excellence Framework (REF). His previous roles include Director of the Centre for Visual and Immersive Computing (CVIC) and Director of Graduate Studies at the University of Huddersfield, where he also served as a REF Impact Case Study Lead. Furthermore, he holds the Level 7 Chartered Manager (CMgr) qualification from the Chartered Management Institute (CMI).

His research interests encompass a broad spectrum of cutting-edge fields, including Computer Vision, Computational Geometry and Graphics, Image Processing, Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR/AR), Visual SLAM, Interactive Visualization and Game Development, Natural Language Processing (NLP), AI of Things (AIoT), and Computing Architecture and Networking.
