Brief Introduction
BioPrintCraft is a modular, low-cost bioprinter designed to make bioprinting technology more accessible for students, researchers, and early-stage laboratories.
The project focuses on multi-material Direct Ink Writing (DIW), enabling the printing of hydrogels and bio-inks for applications such as tissue engineering research, biomedical testing, and education.
How it is being developed
First, we study existing scientific literature to understand materials, printing methods, and system requirements.
Then, we design and assemble the hardware, including the mechanical structure, extrusion system, and electronic control.
The development process also includes testing different bio-ink and support bath combinations (e.g., GelMA and Carbopol) to optimize print quality.
Expected outcome
The expected outcome is a fully functional, modular bioprinter capable of printing soft materials and bio-inks with high precision.
The project will result in:
• A working prototype of a multi-material DIW bioprinter
• Demonstrated printing of hydrogel structures
• A scalable and low-cost system suitable for educational and research use
In the long term, BioPrintCraft aims to contribute to democratizing bioprinting technology and supporting innovation in biomedical engineering and education.
