About us
Public-key cryptography is the absolute cornerstone supporting modern information society and large-scale communication networks; almost all the secure digital interactions we rely on daily are inseparable from it. However, this cornerstone faces an unprecedented and urgent threat: the rapid development of quantum computers signals that their powerful computing capabilities will be sufficient to completely break currently widely used public-key cryptosystems (such as RSA and ECC) within the next few years, potentially leading to widespread paralysis of global information systems. To cope with this disruptive risk, the world must transition to “Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC)” capable of resisting quantum computer attacks. But this is not a simple technological upgrade; it is an extremely complex systemic project. It involves the comprehensive, meticulous, secure, and reliable migration of the existing vast and heterogeneous information infrastructure, covering numerous challenging aspects such as algorithm selection, protocol adaptation, hardware and software compatibility, standardization, large-scale deployment, and verification. It is precisely at this critical juncture of severe challenges and historic transformation that the Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University Post-Quantum Migration Interdisciplinary Laboratory (PQC-X) was established. The laboratory focuses on the research and development, transformation, and industrialization of the post-quantum security sector. It aims to tackle core technical challenges in post-quantum migration, build advanced and reliable technological and product frameworks to effectively counter quantum threats, and help China seize the initiative in the development of the information security industry in the post-quantum era.
