Professor Konstantinos Papadikis is a dedicated educator and academic leader with extensive experience in curriculum development, programme management, and educational innovation. As Associate Vice President for Education at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU), he is committed to advancing teaching excellence, fostering student-centred learning, and shaping the University’s strategic vision for education.
Since joining XJTLU’s Department of Civil Engineering in 2011, he has held numerous leadership roles that have shaped his educational philosophy and practice. He served as Head of the Department of Civil Engineering (2017-2020) and subsequently as the founding Dean of the Design School (2020-2023), leading the School’s four departments: Architecture, Civil Engineering, Industrial Design and Urban Planning and Design. He currently serves as Associate Director of the Advanced Materials Research Centre at XJTLU.
Throughout his career, Professor Papadikis has demonstrated a deep commitment to curriculum innovation and programme development. He has developed and led multiple undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. As Programme Developer and Director, he has been instrumental in designing curricula that integrate disciplinary depth with interdisciplinary perspectives, preparing students for complex global challenges, while his teaching portfolio spans multiple sectors of science, engineering, and design subjects.
An active contributor to the wider academic community, he has led and served on numerous university committees, including the University Learning and Teaching Committee, Academic Quality and Standards Sub-Committee, and the University Research Performance Sub-Committee. He has chaired departmental and school-level learning and teaching committees and has extensive experience as a PhD examiner and Viva Voce Chair.
Professor Papadikis’s research interests lie at the intersection of chemical engineering, fluid mechanics, and materials science, with a focus on thermochemical conversion processes and multiphase flows, and he has published over 50 journal articles and edited proceedings. His editorial work also includes co-editing the proceedings of the International Conference on Sustainable Buildings and Structures (ICSBS 2019, 2023).
In his role as Associate Vice President for Education, Professor Papadikis is passionate about driving educational innovation, enhancing the student learning experience, and fostering a culture of teaching excellence across the University.
