ABSTRACT

Since the discovery of electrochromism of bulk tungsten oxide in the 1930s, boosted electrochromic materials and devices have attracted wide attentions. Nowadays, commercialized products and devices have already been put on the worldwide market, ranging from the glass exterior wall of Stadtsparkasse building in German to the window shades equipped by Boeing 787 airplane. However, electrochromic technique and products are still far away from familiar to our daily life at current stage due to its limited functionality. In the recent years, we have done some systematic work in this area, including new materials design and synthesis, new electrolytes, as well as new devices development. In this talk, a short overview about the development history of electrochromic materials and devices will be given. Then, the fusing of electrochromic technology with other advanced techniques will be shown as the next development direction for modern electrochromic technology.
