Abstract
The Department of Media and Communication welcomes you to a new reading group examining the relationship between media, communication and love, broadly intended as a benevolent attachment to a person, an idea, an object, and often accompanied by intense feelings. Love provides us with a special site where we could comprehend the social and cultural paradoxes of modern society and their effect on the relationship between the personal and the social (Illouz, 2012). Therefore, the aim of this reading group is to meet and discuss texts at the intersection between sociology, media and love studies in order to explore new possible areas of academic inquiry taking love as a special point of observation. Each session will terminate with the reading of a love poem presented by a staff member. The reading club is a monthly meeting with interdisciplinary research method and open to all XJTLU students and staff.
Speaker
