Abstract

On behalf of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS), we are delighted to welcome you to our 1st Annual HSS Undergraduate Conference.

The idea for this conference came from the undergraduate Student-Staff Liaison Committee (SSLC). Student representatives communicated feedback that students would like more opportunities to share the results of their studies and to present and publish their work. The HSS school was delighted by the ambition of our students and was happy to enhance research-led teaching within the School in the form of this conference.

This conference brings together undergraduate students from the departments of Applied Linguistics, China Studies, International Studies, Literature, Media and Communication, and Translation and Interpreting to exchange ideas and give each other feedback.

Staff representatives from each department have evaluated submitted abstracts and will join the conference to ask questions and offer comments after each paper. At the end of the conference, they will vote, and one winner and two runners-up will be announced. The winner and runners-up will receive a prize.

All papers presented at the conference are eligible to be published, after undergoing a revision process. Presenters will be given more information about this after the conference.

We would like to thank the HSS School for its generous support and the staff representatives for all their hard work.

Finally, congratulations to all the students who are involved! We are looking forward to learning from you, and hearing about your excellent research.
