Abstract
Pan Jianfeng has walked a winding creative path, eagerly combining different forms of professional expertise, art sensitivity and cultural knowledge. Early in his career, he committed to investigating the interrelationships between words, images, and communication through research and creative practice. In recent years in Finland, he has experimented with different forms of writing and image-making to facilitate cross-cultural engagements transcending national boundaries. In this conversation, he will share his understanding of the possibilities of facing contemporary challenges of rapid social transformation and advanced technology, cultivating creative ideas and sharing Chinese heritage with broad international audiences, using Chinese brush as a primary tool.
Speaker
Pan Jianfeng is a calligraphic visual artist from China. He started his career in 2002 as a design director at leading global agencies in Shanghai. He won many international awards, and his work was exhibited in major museums in China. Pan exiled himself to Finland in 2015. He creates super-normal characters and performative images through mindful graphic writing. His art practice of self-healing and self-cultivation aims to challenge the contemporary world’s cultural divides. He is the author of the book "What Can We Do? Cross Cultural Visual Communication and Chinese Typography" (2013).
