Abstract
Drug research and development is a huge research project in pharmaceutical industry. It combines a broad range of science and technology, especially Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Engineering, Clinical and Statistics. Chemistry plays the essential role in small molecule drug discovery and development, from the early-stage hit generation to the late-stage lead optimization, from the clinical candidate process research to the commercial product manufacturing. This seminar will introduce the whole process of drug discovery and development and showcase the applications of chemistry in each stage.
Speaker
Dr. Tian graduated from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and then completed his postdoctoral research with Professor E. J. Corey, a Nobel laureate at Harvard University. He has been working in drug discovery and development in various companies including Takeda, Schering-Plough, Merck Sharp & Dohme, Eli Lilly, and WuXi Apptec for 20 years. He led and participated in the development of several new drugs for tumors, autoimmune diseases, central nervous system disorders, and metabolic diseases. In 2021, he joined Keythera Biopharmaceutical and is taking the comprehensive responsibility in drug discovery and development research. Dr. Tian has published 14 invention patents and 30 academic papers. In 2022, Dr. Tian was selected as the "Leading Innovation Talent" of Suzhou Industry Park; in 2023, he was awarded the title of "Innovative Entrepreneurial Talent" in Jiangsu Province.
