Dr. Chee Seong (CS) Chin, Head of Civil Engineering Department and Director of the Institute for Sustainable Materials and Environment (ISME), Dr. Ominda Nanayakkara, Dr. Charles Loo, Dr. Jun Xia, and one PhD student (Mr. Mohammad Hajsadeghi) paid a research visit to Jiangsu Sobute New Materials Co., Ltd on the 30th of November 2015 to discuss the research collaboration between ISME and the company.
The collaboration discussion was hosted by President Jia Ping Liu from Jiangsu Sobute at the company's headquarter in Nanjing. CS introduced the major achievements of Civil Engineering at XJTLU including in relation to its academic staff members, facilities, degree programmes and research outputs. Several research outcome and projects within the ISME were included in the presentation including the finite element simulation on various types of fibres and their interaction with the cementitious matrix, development and application of ultra-high performance fibre reinforced concrete (UHPFRC), patch repair of reinforced concrete with corroded rebars and micro-organism reinforced composites. The discussion was followed by the introduction of the company given by Mr Jin Xiang Hong, Director of R&D Centre at Jiangsu Sobute. He explained that Jiangsu Sobute is a hi-tech enterprise originated from Building Material Research Institute of Architectural Academy of Jiangsu Province, is specialised in R&D and application of civil engineering material technologies. The company was also granted to initiate and develop "Post-Doctoral Research Station", "Enterprise Based Academician Workstation of Jiangsu Province" and "The National Key Laboratory of High Performance Building Materials". The discussion highlighted the strong overlap as well as complementary in the arears of research interests. Both parties conclude the potential fields of research collaboration on fibre prototyping, fibre reinforced concrete simulation and application of UHPFRC material. After the discussion, the XJTLU group visit the testing facility and research labs at Jiangsu Solute.
