More than 50 graduates of International Business School Suzhou at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University attended an alumni and friends reception in Shanghai.

They were joined at the Huangpu Binjiang G-Bund Club by guests from IBSS and industry, including Professor Jean Chen, dean of IBSS, who delivered a welcome speech that introduced developments at IBSS over the past few years, as well as its future development strategy.

She also expressed thanks to the XJTLU Shanghai Alumni Association for their work with XJTLU and IBSS alumni offices in serving alumni.

Jiefu Chen, product manager of the Sinolink Yongfu Asset Management Co., Ltd, and president of the XJTLU Shanghai Alumni Association, gave a speech on the development of the Shanghai Alumni Association saying that WeChat groups have been developed to allow alumni to share information covering a range of interests, from general information to useful life information to information about careers and industry. “We have more than 1,000 alumni in our association now and we welcome more alumni to find and join us,” he said.

Many of those attending the reunion were enthusiastic to meet old schoolmates and make new friends.

Jiale Dong, an MSc Finance graduate, said: “I’m so proud of being a member of the IBSS family. I really appreciate the opportunities that IBSS and our alumni association give us to gather together several times a year. I’ve heard that our south campus will be in use soon and I can’t wait to experience the development of my alma master. Choosing XJTLU and IBSS was one of the best decisions in my life.”

A panel discussion on organisational culture and happiness was also held and featured Elton Xu, vice president of Wilshire Associates, Ian Driscoll, director of communications and publications at AmCham Shanghai, and Mengchen Yang, alumni representative and business development manager of Systematic Inventive Thinking, as panel guests. Professor Chen acted as panel chair, leading the talk.

The discussion started with the simple question “are you happy?” which triggered much conversation among panel members, who differed in age, nationality, education level, and working and life experience. Discussion followed and focused on questions including what the panel thought contributed to positive organisational culture and their experiences of good and bad business cultures.

The IBSS Shanghai Alumni and Friends Reception was hosted by IBSS and the XJTLU Shanghai Alumni Association and sponsored by Greenland Group, Suzhou Xin Tian Di Cultural and Tourism Development Co., Ltd, and Sina Leju, Shanghai.
