Students at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University’s Academy of Film and Creative Technology and XJTLU Entrepreneur College (Taicang) not only study theory, but also put it into practice. This education model prepares them for roles as leaders in their chosen industries.

Shiqi Cai (pictured below), a Year 2 student in the Arts, Technology and Entertainment with Contemporary Entrepreneurialism programme, has already successfully learned to combine classroom study with real-world opportunities.

Last month, she filmed a spring fair at EtonHouse International School Suzhou. At the event, she described how she approaches her work.

“For today’s filming project, I needed to engage in the full process of thinking of ideas for the shooting, writing scripts, shooting scenes and then trimming videos,” she said.

“I get an idea of how to shoot a scene in class and then I have the opportunity to apply the knowledge when shooting videos on my own.”

Qiang Wang (pictured below, right) an audio and video technician at the Academy of Film and Creative Technology and the filming instructor for the event said Cai is an experienced independent video creator.

“Shiqi can create professional videos on her own. She can handle the entire filming process from pre-production, like planning and coordinating, to shooting scenes and trimming videos,” Wang said.

“I have been creating my own short videos since high school, and I was the director of a filming club,” Cai said.

“I want to be a professional TV show producer in the future, and I believe engaging in filming projects as much as possible prepares me for my future career.”

The Arts, Technology and Entertainment with Contemporary Entrepreneurialism programme is jointly offered by the Academy and XJTLU Entrepreneur College (Taicang).
