TALK

Why teaching at XJTLU/SoFTA?

Takao: XJTLU/SoFTA is an ideal research and learning environment for dynamic interactions between East Asia and Europe. I believe such active dialogues between the East and the West are pivotal to broadening our understanding of creative industries and cultural policies and discussing their futures. Furthermore, combining theories and practices is crucial in cultural and creative industry studies. SoFTA is one of the best settings because of staff and students with diverse backgrounds and career plans.

Yang: Life always begins at the end of our comfort zone. I’m so excited to team up at SoFTA to take adventures together. XJTLU offers an international engagement with cultural diversity, and simultaneously, it also keeps me 'at home' cosily.

Yiming: I’m excited about the opportunity to conduct teaching and research in a multicultural environment at XJTLU and contribute to the university's internationalisation mission.

Your expectations for teaching at SoFTA…

Takao: My educational background is from the UK academia, and my research so far is about British cultural policies and creative industries. Therefore, in teaching at SoFTA, I expect to deliver lectures about European models and learn about East Asian contexts and cases from the students. Therefore, I am keen to communicate with students actively and discuss themes and topics in diverse contexts.

Yang: I hope my teaching can truly help and nourish the students, whether in their academic journey or life courses.

Yiming: I’m also eager to work with students together to explore creative education and future education. I wish my teaching philosophy would inspire students to enhance their global perspectives while fostering a deep appreciation for their native culture.

Please say something to our students…

Takao: Hello everyone! I grew up in Japan, studied in the UK, and started teaching here in Suzhou. Among the diverse institutions and countries I stayed at, I believe SoFTA/XJTLU is a fantastic place and opportunity for you! I look forward to seeing you in the class and helping you broaden your futures and possibilities!

Yang: Study hard, play hard. The more efforts, the more fortunes.

Yiming: To dream big and to have pragmatic literacy. The meaning of life is to give life meaning.
