A Delegation of Officials from OSCAR visited the SCI at XJTLU to Discuss a Collaborative Partnership

A delegation of officials from the Oxford Suzhou Centre for Advanced Research (OSCAR), led by Professor Zhenfeng Cui, Executive Director visited the School of Science (SCI) at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU). The visit marks a significant milestone towards fostering deeper ties and establishing a collaborative partnership between OSCAR and SCI of XJTLU.

The OSCAR delegation was warmly welcomed by XJTLU officials, Professor Zhoulin Ruan, VPPA and Professor Adam Cross, AVP Education as well as Professor John Moraros, Dean of the School of Science, along with Professor Li Yang, Associate Dean for Research and Impact, Dr. Sekar Raju, Associate Dean for Learning and Teaching, and other esteemed faculty members.

Engaging in collegial and fruitful discussions, both parties explored avenues to enhance collaboration across various domains, encompassing academic programming, co-teaching opportunities, research endeavours, and joint supervision of Masters and PhD students. Ideas were exchanged on how to leverage the complementary strengths of each institution to drive innovation and academic excellence, and provide better learning experiences to SCI students.

Professor Zhenfeng Cui, Executive Director, OSCAR expressed his optimism about the potential collaboration, remarking: “We are delighted to engage with the School of Science at XJTLU in exploring new avenues for collaboration. By pooling our expertise and resources, we can create capacity building that will yield impactful research outcomesto the mutual benefit our respective institutions.”

The visit underscores the commitment of OSCAR and SCI at XJTLU to advance knowledge and sets the stage for future collaborations that promise to yield ground-breaking discoveries, innovative applications and educational opportunities for SCI students. Professor John Moraros, Dean, SCI stated: “This meeting and our proposed partnership signifies our mutual commitment to fostering a vibrant and international academic and research community that will help push the boundaries of scientific inquiry and lead to discoveries that will benefit the people of Suzhou, Jiangsu province, China, UK and the world.

Oxford Suzhou Centre for Advanced Research

OSCAR is Oxford University’s first and only overseas centre for research in physical and engineering sciences. An international partnership between the University of Oxford and the Suzhou Industrial Park in Jiangsu Province in China, the aim of the centre is to promote collaboration between Oxford and existing research partnerships in China, as well as identifying new collaborations for the future.

Officially opened in October 2018, OSCAR is a multidisciplinary research centre that houses a variety of research themes in science and engineering, as well as developing the commercial potential of their research output. Projects are directed by academics in Oxford, with research undertaken by locally employed researchers in Suzhou.
