On June 17, 2024, the campus of Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (referred to as "XJTLU") was filled with the enthusiasm and energy. On this day, the Department of Chemistry in the School of Science at XJTLU welcomed four students from the University of Liverpool, UK. They will officially begin their six-week study and life at XJTLU.
At the meticulously organized programme introduction and Q&A session, Dr Eric Amigues, Head of the Department of Chemistry in the School of Science, along with the four exchange students’ supervisors, Dr Antony Kam, Dr Yi Lin , Professor John Dennis, and Professor Heechae Choi, introduced the friendly and diverse environment of XJTLU and answered their questions patiently.
During this exchange programme, students from the University of Liverpool will have the opportunity to gain an in-depth understanding of the teaching and research environment in the Department of Chemistry at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University. They will participate in various academic activities, including laboratory research, academic lectures, and group discussions. They will engage in extensive exchanges and cooperation with XJTLU students and professors.
Jack Robertson, a second-year undergraduate chemistry student from the University of Liverpool, shares his enthusiasm for the exchange program at Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU). He will stay at XJTLU for 6 weeks, and complete research in organic chemistry under the supervision of Dr Yi Lin from the Chemistry Department.

Dr Eric Amigues said: “During the six-week exchange period, the students will also have the opportunity to participate in a variety of cultural and social activities, allowing them to gain a deeper understanding and experience of Chinese society, culture, and modern development.” To help the exchange students quickly adapt to the new environment, the teachers provided valuable guidance and advice on practical information such as transportation and daily life, ensuring they have an enjoyable and fulfilling time at XJTLU.
Professor John Moraros, Dean, School of Science said: “With the arrival of the University of Liverpool exchange students, our XJTLU campus becomes even more international and diverse. We believe that in the coming days, the students will spend an unforgettable time with us at XJTLU and along with our faculty, they will jointly create a wonderful chapter of international exchange that strengths our bonds and ties with our friends and partenrs at the University of Liverpool.”
