At the International Summer School conducted by the University of Liverpool, I enjoyed all three of my modules, especially the global impact of Liverpool, which was similar to a history class, and Dr Michael Gill took us to visit the Museum of Liverpool. From being a centre of shipping during the industrial revolution, to being a city of arts and culture today, I was impressed by Liverpool’s rich history and multiculturalism.

Unlike the hustle and bustle of London, Liverpool is more of a slow-paced town. I still remember the feeling of walking along the Royal Albert Dock with the sea breeze blowing, the seagulls circling above, and the Museum of Liverpool nearby. At night, the Beatles tribute concert was over, the evening sunshine on the roadside was gorgeous and the sky was pure; we were taking photos of the Ferris wheel next to us when we passed by an old grandpa sneaking a photo behind us. Everywhere in Liverpool is full of surprises and stories, and my love for the city grew every day.

Apart from the academic programme, I made cool friends from all over the world. We shared food from our respective countries, talked about aspirations and goals, explored British cities like London, Manchester and Birmingham, and shared each other’s cultures and stories. Especially my best friend, Maria from Ukraine, the bravest and most admirable girl I’ve ever met. Also, in the company of other international students, I broadened my horizons and learned to tolerate and appreciate different ways of living and thinking.

After I returned home, I recorded all the moments of this trip in a diary, including my learning experience, travelling experiences, as well as photos with my friends and their messages. I am grateful to each of my friends for their warmth and care.

I would advise students to try new things and be brave enough to experience the challenges and opportunities that come with a new environment. This will not only broaden your horizons, but also allow you to grow academically and in life. Whether you are studying or travelling, it is a great way to learn about the world. You never know what life-changing people and events you will encounter in the future, and you will find yourself far braver and stronger than you ever imagined!

Finally, I would like to thank the University of Liverpool International Summer School team for their dedication. They were always there to help us when we needed it and made sure that every detail of our studies and life was well taken care of. Especially Grace Edge, Global Opportunities Adviser, who gave me so much valuable advice and help. She was always listening patiently and providing effective solutions when we were struggling. “Be brave and embrace change, because only then you can discover new possibilities,” she said.
