On 5 September, the School of Science (XJTLU) welcomed a dynamic group of an unprecedented postgraduate recruitment class. There were 113 Master & 74 PhD new highly qualified students excited to join and held an informative induction session in room SB102. This provided an excellent opportunity for the new students to learn more about the school and their respective research projects.

Professor John Moraros, Dean of the School of Science, extended a warm welcome and provided a comprehensive introduction to the School. He encouraged the students to use their passion, advance their academic exploration, and foster personal growth. Professor Moraros also hoped that everyone would cherish their precious time in the school, actively participate in academic exchanges, broaden their horizons, and build long-term and deep friendships.
In addition, the heads of departments, programme directors, and Dandan Zhao from the XJTLU Student Affairs office also came to the event to provide guidance and support to all new students.
CHEMISTRY
New students of the MRes Advanced Chemical Sciences & MRes Materials Science and Engineering & PhD in Chemistry were given an overview of the curriculum and had the opportunity to tour the chemistry laboratory and gain an intuitive understanding of the advanced equipment and safety procedures in the laboratory.
BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES
New students of the MRes Molecular Bioscience & MRes Bioinformatics & PhD in Biology were briefed on the course structure and familiarised with the laboratory facilities by the laboratory manager.
ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES
New students of the MRes Environmental Sciences & PhD in Environmental Science & PhD in Public Health met with the programme directors and took the laboratory tour at the ES Building on South Campus. During the programme session, the students gained valuable insights and found motivation for their upcoming academic journey.
