You are your brain! Pioneering the Use of Binaural Beats Technology to Enhance Students’ Creativity

The Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Hub (EEH)’s Associate Professor Victor (Vik) Perez envisions the future of entrepreneurship education as centered on “brain-driven entrepreneurial enhancement," a concept he introduces in his latest book, Neuroscience and Entrepreneurship: Researching Brain-Driven Entrepreneurship.

One pivotal neurotechnology poised to propel this vision forward is binaural beats. “Picture your brain as a DJ at a party,” explains Dr Perez. “Imagine two different tracks playing—one in each ear. The DJ, or your brain, detects the slight difference between these tracks and mixes a new, unique beat from that difference. Although you don’t hear this new beat directly, it holds the ability to induce your brain to be more focused, relaxed, or creative. This is how binaural beats enhance your brain’s activity”

In Finland, Dr Perez led the integration of binaural beats technology into entrepreneurship education, developing the world’s first album of audio tracks designed to induce entrepreneurship students' creativity. At the EEH, he introduced his first binaural beats-enhanced audio track, making it available to the Immersive Technopreneurship Summer School students after they completed the program. “I’m delighted that our students can now leverage these unique learning-enhancement tools to advance their entrepreneurial mindset” Dr Perez observed.

As a staunch advocate for radical creativity, Dr Perez strives to push the boundaries of what is possible in entrepreneurship education. His next book, Entrepreneurial Enhancement, to be released by Routledge in 2025, will provide a comprehensive overview of the principles, mechanisms, and neurotechnologies, alongside a theoretical framework, to facilitate the shift from conventional to brain-driven entrepreneurship education.

Experience the benefits of binaural beats technology through Dr Perez’s poem-like audio track titled “For When You Need Your Heart”.

Feel free to explore the three tracks and see which one resonates with you the most. For an immersive session, headphones and a quiet space are recommended.

To deepen the effects, consider listening to your preferred track twice a day for at least one week, ideally two weeks. Dr Perez looks forward to hearing about your experience! (victor.perez@xjtlu.edu.cn).
