The AI Video Competition was planned and organised by Dr. Xi Chen of the Department of Physics as an additional optional extra credit assignment.

The PHY001 module aims to help students appreciate the importance of simplifying complex physical phenomena, establishing ideal models, and their extensions to more realistic descriptions of nature. Students actively participated in this competition, demonstrating their creativity and physics knowledge through engaging video production and innovative use of AI tools.

Professor M.B.N. (Thijs) Kouwenhoven, the Head of the Department of Physics, delivered a speech. He said that students are the future and believe that the future of physics is inseparable from AI technology. In addition, it is essential to be aware of AI technology’s limitations and think about how to solve this problem: “Just like the internet limitations, you learn how to live with it, you learn how to use AI and be aware of their limitations.” Also, learn how to live with AI: “That will completely change our society. You have to be ready for that. Not only because it will create opportunities, but also because many of the jobs will be taken over by AI.”

One of the first prize-winning students, Mo Li, introduced her work mainly about the Hall effect and its applications. She said that by making videos using AI, she could better understand the applications of the Hall effect in her life.

Dr. Chen has observed that student-created videos significantly enhance students’ interest in learning physics and plans to continue and expand this initiative, providing sample videos for student reference. She stated, "For the first time in the PHY001 module, we have integrated AI video production, allowing students to present their work innovatively. The quality of the videos produced by the students using AI platforms such as XIPU AI has greatly exceeded expectations."
