The School of Humanities and Social Sciences, XJTLU recently held its first Book Launch event. Dr Echo Lei Wang from the Department of China Studies at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University launched her new book, “Social Enterprise in China”, published by Routledge.
“The book may attract both researchers studying China's political economy and individuals interested in the growth of the social enterprise sector, particularly those keen to understand how it operates within the Chinese context. ” Dr Echo mentioned during the event.
The book analyzes work-integration social enterprises as a method for delivering social services in China. It explores how these enterprises interact with the state and the implications for their effectiveness. Using a bottom-up approach, it examines local practices and the differing development paths of social enterprises. The book offers insights into China's efforts to develop its social welfare sector and reconsider traditional ideas about public service delivery.
Dr Echo Lei Wang, the author, was the first speaker of HSS Book Launch series event series. She is an assistant professor in the Department of China Studies at HSS. Dr Wang holds a joint PhD in political science and China studies, with a specialisation in public administration, from the National University of Singapore and King’s College London. Her research interests include state-society relations, social entrepreneurship and institutional change, non-profit management, and the collaborative governance of public services.
