Education and Quality Assurance Office

Education and Quality Assurance Office

Education and Quality Assurance Office is committed to safeguarding the standards and quality of programme provision at XJTLU, in collaboration with committees at both school/academy level and institutional level, and serves as the central body responsible for the management, development and enhancement of the internal and external quality assurance mechanisms.

Main responsibilities

  1. Programme provision

EQA supports schools and academies with programme development, validation, revalidation, and applications to Ministry of Education (MoE). At the same time, EQA collaborates with S/A CRPs, UCRP and ULTC to ensure quality programme and module design.

EQA assists with the implementation of the University’s strategies, such as reviewing Y1, UG and PG curriculum, and other curriculum enhancement initiatives.

EQA also works with Academic Quality Sub Division (AQSD) from University of Liverpool (UoL) on the joint initiatives, such as PG 1+1, new articulation routes, guidelines for professional doctorate programmes.

  1. Key Internal quality assurance mechanisms

Annual Programme Review is a powerful internal QA mechanism, enabling schools and academies to conduct a thorough review of their programmes for continuous enhancement. EQA works with and support schools/academies for the holistic review.

Internal Periodic Review takes place every six years and provides a good opportunity for the schools/academies to reflect on the school operation, academic provision and their students’ experience, and gain insights from internal and external experts. EQA orchestrates the IPR review under the authority of ULTC.

Teaching Development Fund encourages academic staff’s continuous enhancement of their pedagogical skills. EQA manages the fund under the auspices of ULTC.

  1. External quality assurance/enhancement mechanisms

External mechanisms here refer to the quality assurance and quality enhancement projects from outside of XJTLU, such as MoE, DoE and UoL, including but not limited to, Key Discipline Construction Project, National Top-ranking Programmes, Provincial Brand programmes, Annual Monitoring Visit and FYP Sampling Evaluation. EQA works with schools/academies to take active part in these activities.

  1. Committee operational management

EQA offers administrative assistance to committees such as the University Curriculum Review Panel (UCRP) and the University Learning and Teaching Committee (ULTC). ULTC and UCRP work closely with School/Academy Curriculum Review Panels to maintain high-quality programme and module design, aiming to continuously enhance students’ learning experience.
